This workshop is an introduction to watercolor through the process of painting a series of 3 and 4 inch circles or “moons”. The circle invites a wide range of experiences and opportunities for learning watercolor technique.
We begin by learning how to measure and tear watercolor paper and lay out the moons using a compass and ruler. The rest of class will be spent exploring watercolor technique, color mixing, and surrender - an essential ingredient to successfully painting with water. This class is suitable for the full range of artistic abilities, but is especially focused on beginner artists and people who either feel they are not creative or want to be but don’t know where to start.
Amelia Morton is the owner of Space In Common and has been painting with watercolors since the age of 4 when she was introduced to them in a Waldorf preschool in her hometown of Ashland, Oregon.
Materials: You may choose to buy a Sakura Koi Watercolor Field Sketch Box Kit (24 colors) with the class or bring your own paints. This class is built around pan watercolors so if you are bringing your own, pans are preferred over tubes. The cost of the class includes a Sakura watercolor set and a water brush for $26 which is a $10 discount off of retail price! All other supplies - brush, paper, pencils, rulers, and compasses are provided by Space In Common and can be purchased separately after the class if you would like to take them home with you.
